How StoryMoon uses AI

What is generated with AI

Three parts of every book are made with AI tools, and we consider all of them AI-generated content under Article 50 of the EU AI Act:

• Illustrations. The hero portrait and every page illustration, including the cover. They are drawn from the three photos you upload, the appearance details you confirm, the style you choose and a scene description written by the story's author.
• Song audio. The music and the singing voice. The lyrics are written by people; an AI music tool performs them with your child's name in place.
• Film timing. The moments when pages turn and subtitles appear in film mode are computed automatically from the recorded song.

What people write

Every story is written and edited by a person, and so are the song lyrics. The text is then personalised for your child: the name and pronouns are placed in, and sentence length is adapted to the age band you chose. An AI language tool helps with that adaptation under a strict instruction not to change the plot or the meaning of any page.

If you add a line about what happened this week, an AI language tool weaves that note into two pages of the story, following a brief the author left for exactly those pages. Those two pages are checked like any other.

How we check

Every generated image is checked automatically against a fixed list: the right number of fingers and limbs, eye colour matching what you confirmed, likeness to the approved hero, no stray text in the picture, the scene matching the author's description, and nothing frightening or unsuitable for a child. Pages that fail are redrawn.

While we launch, a person also looks through every book before it is sent to you. We will only switch that step off once the automated check has proven itself over enough books.

How we label it

This page is the full statement. Inside the product, the last page of every book and the colophon of every PDF say that the illustrations and the song were generated with AI. The reader app shows the same note.

How your child's photos are handled

Photos are stored in private storage that is not reachable from the web. To draw the hero we pass them to our image provider through links that expire within minutes; nothing is copied anywhere public. We never use your photos to train AI models; our providers process them only to generate your book.

You can delete the photos, or your whole account, from Settings at any time. Deleting the account removes the photos and everything drawn from them. Details are in the privacy policy.

Which tools we use

Images and music are generated through KIE, a platform that runs third-party image and music models. Text adaptation and the automated image checks run on Anthropic's Claude models. We choose models by how well they keep your child recognisable across a whole book, and we may change them; this page will say so.

How to report a problem

If a page looks wrong — an extra finger, the wrong eye colour, a scene that doesn't match the story, anything that worries you — write to support@storymoon.com with the book title and the page number. We redraw the page or re-record the song at no cost, and if something inappropriate slipped through, we take the book down while we look.
